TooREX
- the Marc Bolan 33rd Anniversary Celebration Rock Show in London!
(Coming
soon! 18th Sept!)
Marc Bolan - Rest in Peace...
1947-1977 aged 29...
TooREX once again will take their proud place within the many celebrations that are
still so popular today, to respectfully mark the anniversary of the untimely
departure of Marc Bolan, the lovable rock star that fronted his band - T.REX.
With many chart hits spanning his short career throughout the early to mid
1970s, those many T.REX singles and albums, even today, still have an immense
charm, as well as a never ending influence on current music ever since.
Help to keep Marc's eternal flame as bright as possible by joining the band at
one of their more intimate shows here in London, and, of course during 'Marc
Week', all the many excellent organisations that pay their respects and musical
tributes to the Main Man.
KEEP A LITTLE MARC IN YOUR HEARTS!

The Half Moon @ Putney-
September 18th 2010 Anniversary Show Goes Ahead!!
Hi Groovers,
As you may well know, the Half Moon in London SW15 was recently threatened with
closure by Young's Brewery. A new swanky gastro-pub was on the menu in its
place, thus deleting over fifty years of rock'n'roll history - an endless list
inc Rolling Stones, U2, The Police, etc have all graced its stage.
Fortunately, after an extensive campaign and massive public uproar, plus huge
support from the press -as well as the venue’s local MP, landlords Young's
reconsidered their plans, and have now announced that they intend to keep the
premises open as a live music venue.
One of the many provisos, however, was to seriously diminish the quantity of
their top tribute acts etc...
This in turn would pave the way forward to encourage the growth and promotion of
new and original music on The Half Moon stage.
Thus, unfortunately Sat March 20th TooREX's London Show @ The HALF MOON show in
Putney has been cancelled by the very apologetic management, who expressed
TooREX as one of their favourites, yet ultimately their hands are tied.
We did manage to secure the September Anniversary show, that will still go ahead
as planned!!!!
We spoke to the new office management at the Half Moon this morning (Wed 20th)
and they confirmed that all the tickets for the March show purchased via
ticketWeb will naturally be refundable via the ticketWeb site.
( Please contact Carrie at The Half Moon with any ticket difficulties or
complaints on - 020 8780 9383 )
Huge apologies to everyone that has been affected by Young's decision.
kindest regards
TooREX

'Christmas' from TooREX
Once
again Christmas is upon us, it's a time to reach out and bless family, friends
and loved ones.
Sometimes with happiness there also comes sadness, for those who have loved and
lost, Christmas will never be quite the same...
Where there is darkness there will also be the light of love - as we turn our
thoughts to all that is good.
Like the warmth and friendship of gracious folk, such as Solid Gold Steve and
Stella, Paul and Lynn to name but a few and also our dear Annette who sadly
passed away just a few weeks ago - our thoughts and love are with her family at
this sad time.
Reflecting upon Christmas past and present, I can cast my mind back 38
years..........We were promised not only the Morecombe and Wise Christmas
Special, but also two festive editions of 'Top of The Pops' with our very own
Marc - we sat with fingers crossed... painfully waiting for him to appear on
both shows! Little did we know, all that time ago, that we (yourselves and I)
were family back then, as we are today...
take care everyone, and thank you for all your kind Christmas messages.

19th Sept 2009
Hey everyone! We'd just like to thank
all the folk that managed to join us last night at London's Half Moon Anniversary
Show ,
indeed 'twas a full moon! Light of the Magical Moon seemed a fitting tune to play
there!
Top chap Roy, from Belfast, actually slipped us a note telling us mid- set that
we had the pleasure of having folk, not only from all parts of UK, present
(Newcastle, Nottingham, Dorset, Ireland, Birmingham, Edinburgh ,etc) but also
further afield, Roy's message read as follows-
" Hi Guys! just to let you know people are here from
Australia, Canada, Japan, America, Belfast and Dublin!"
Good to see our friend Heinrich from
Sweden too! We know the main reason people travel so far, is to pay their
respects to Marc, but we also know that folk appreciate the anniversary shows available
this special weekend - keeping the troops entertained... that's where we, the
tribute bands, come in! Thankyou everyone for coming to the loudest,
hot'n'sweaty
show! It was great to chat to as many of you as we could afterwards. We
also really appreciated the presence of members of both of the fan clubs 'OMBFC' and T.A.G.
Please go and join/support these very worthwhile clubs
(see links page!) as from both, a plethora of Marc facts & info can be enjoyed.
Finally, We hope your week/weekend was fun
and one you'll remember, and that most of all, Marc
is in your hearts as always...

T.Rex
frontman Marc Bolan biopic!
Music-News.com
T.Rex frontman Marc Bolan biopic added: 16 May 2009 // by: newsdesk
UK production company
Masterplan Film Productions Ltd have secured the film rights to "TWENTIETH
CENTURY BOY", a biopic of legendary T.Rex frontman Marc Bolan.
Marc Bolan has gone
down in history as a cultural icon whose hit singles, fashion sensibilities
and stage presence with T.Rex in the early 1970s helped cultivate the glam
rock era. He remains one of the most recognisable stars in British music.
The script has been written by first time scribe Susie Kahlich, who worked
closely with Bolan's family to create an accurate and deeply personal
potrayal of the legendary star.
"This is a long
overdue project and we're really looking forward to finally seeing this get
made" says Marc's son, Rolan Bolan. "We think my dad's story and his music
is important not only to older fans, but appeals to a whole new crop of fans
across all generations."
Bolan's long
time partner, Gloria Jones, feels the time is right for this project. "I see
6-year olds wearing T.Rex T-shirts and dancing to Marc's music. These young
fans only go to show you that Marc was a man of great spirit and integrity,
and a child at heart that could speak to all generations. We're really
excited about this film, because while Marc's story takes place in the past,
the man and his music are very relevant to the present."
The script has
already been subject to interest from a number of the major studios and has
been described by industry insiders as "a beautiful and often surreal trip
into the mind of a musical genius". Award winning Welsh filmmaker Andrew
Jones will be producing the project for Masterplan Films. Principal
photography is set to begin in late 2010 and will take in a wide range of
locations including London, Wales and the USA.
Sad News...
posted Friday 3rd April 09
'We were terribly sad to hear
about the passing of our friend and agent Jeff Powles on Wednesday 1st April
2009.
Our sincere condolences go to Dan,
Linzi and Penny and all his close
family and friends.
Jeff has worked for
the band as one of their main agents since August 2003 (his 1st booking, a venue named Rockers in
Taunton) and during that time has enjoyed a friendly, topsy-turvy, musical
rollercoaster ride with Bobby T and myself all the way to today. We will miss him and
his funny sense of humour and irony, as well as his experience and no-nonsense
approach to the business. I know that he enjoyed working with all of his bands
and to be truthful, every band were his favourites, he just loved to be
hands-on (and usually in the way)!!
I seemed to do a lot of artwork for
Jeff over the years - posters, tickets, flyers, backdrops etc anything that
he needed for his bands. He always professed to love my work and probably
made more fuss over it than necessary, it was clear he appreciated it.
The clickable thumbnail above will probably be the
last piece of artwork I do for him - I hope he likes it.
I also hope that wherever Jeff is he
may actually bump into a few of the musicians no longer with us portrayed by
his many
tribute bands, particularly Marc (Bolan) - I'm sure he'd have lots to chat
about :-)

Hi Folks! Firstly, thanks everyone for your kind comments on our guestbook! We
really appreciate your feedback. It’s also a great way for us to make sure we’re
still doing things right!
Well, it’s been a very eventful couple of months for TooREX….. firstly Col gave
us the very sad news that he was going to have to leave the band for family reasons. We’ve been playing a lot of dates all
around the UK recently, and it was proving
more and more difficult for him to spend extended periods of time away from his
family. With his rock solid bass-playing and soaring harmonies, Col was an
absolute backbone for TooREX
and we’ll all miss him very much.
Fittingly, Col played his last awesome gig with us at our hometown theatre, the Towngate
in Basildon, on 29th August. Although it’s a formal seated venue, by the end of the
night the whole 400 strong audience had taken to their feet to bop the evening
away with us. For anyone there (including the band!), the highlight of the
evening was probably the amazing Netty dancing around the stage to ‘New York
City’ in a frog suit. Marc would have been proud!
As it happens, the Towngate gig very nearly didn’t happen…… as it was a special
occasion, Zapper (in his limited wisdom..) thought he would hire a laser to add
to the light show. Unfortunately, about 10 seconds after switching it on during
the soundcheck, it went bang…… and fused the whole theatre! And when we
discovered that no-one on the premises knew where the fusebox was, we thought we
were really up the creek….. Luckily, after about half an hour of flicking every
switch we could find, we managed to find the right one!
Fortunately, the Towngate gig went really well (in spite of the bar closing at
9.30…hmmm….) and everyone had a great time. None of this after-show party stuff
tonight though as the band had to be up bright and early next morning for the
drive down to Dorset for their gig at the ‘Great Dorset Steam Fair’. It was the
first time we had played this event and, having never heard of it before,
assumed it involved a couple of old boys and their dog admiring a traction
engine in a field………….. Boy! were we in for a shock when, appearing over the
brow of a hill, were tents, cars, caravans, marquees, funfairs and…. er…. steam
engines for as far as the eye could see! It was massive!! No-one had told us
that the fair was attended by 250,000 over 4 days! approx 87,000 cars ! The site itself
was apparently bigger than Glastonbury. Mmmm! 800 acres of Mad Max twisted
metal and smoke! Fortunately for our clean underpants we only played to about
2000 of them in one of the (six!) music tents.
(cont'd below)

This gig also marked the TooREX
debut for our new bass player Johnny Ray (no not the ‘50s crooner!), an
experienced session player from Essex who was able to fill in for us with only a
few days notice. (John enjoys occasional jams with T.REX drummer Bill
Legend and Dr Feelgood's John Potter as well as working with Julia Fordham)
For his biog go to 'Meet the Band'
area.
Not only did Johnny Ray give a cracking performance that night, but he has gone from
strength to strength ever since.
Which is just as well as our next gig was the special 31st Anniversary Show at
the Half Moon Putney, only about a mile away from where Marc sadly lost his
life. This is always a great show for us as it is well attended by members of
the various Marc Bolan Fan Clubs. This practically guarantees a fantastic
atmosphere and ensures a great deal of bopping and singing. Again, a great time
was had by all. Incidentally, special thanks go to our friends Dee and Harry who
had come all the way from Pennsylvania USA to see us as part of the anniversary
celebrations.
Anyway, better sign off now. For anyone living in the Midlands (or
Manchester!!), we’re playing one of our favourite venues, the Diamond Club in
Sutton-in-Ashfield, this Saturday (27 Sept). Look forward to seeing you there
for a beer or two!
Best wishes, and KALMIYH

Hi
Folks....Zapper here! Well what a fantastic first year with TooREX! Despite my
initial trepidation about stepping into some very big shoes left by the awesome
Rocky, I've just about got my head around the intricate guitar and keyboard
arrangements for Marc's songs now. What seem fairly simple songs at the first
listen are in fact surprisingly complex.
The thing that's struck me most though, is the love for Marc and his songs shown
by the audiences at our gigs. Just shows the incredible power of the man and his
music, even after thirty years.......
Finally to cap it all, I'll picked up some amazing hair styling tips from Steevi
& Bobby! Now where's that hypoallergenic mousse...
Have a very Happy Rexmas & New Year everyone... Look forward to rockin' out with
you all in 2008!

The Celebration Weekend
TooREX would like to thank
everyone that came to give their support at the recent Marc Bolan 30th Year
Anniversary show at the Half Moon in London on Friday 14th Sept 2007. We'd like to think
that we were given the chance to light the touch paper that set the weekend off
in true Bolanic style! Bolan fans worldwide flocked to the city to pay their
respects. The Saturday saw the Celebration Show at The Shepherds Bush Empire
with the T.Rextasy lads guiding the star-studded ship home -fantastic! The
Sunday saw the special service at the Crem followed by the London Bop where yet
more T.REX festivities followed. Even if somehow you couldn't make the trip to London due to one thing
or another we know you were thinking of Marc and in doing so helping
to fan the flame that burns so brightly. The whole weekend was filled with
emotional tributes and it's something we'll all treasure for years to come.
Also we'd like to share with
you this special album that's now available (the proceeds go to the Official
Marc Bolan Memorial fund) Here's a quick outline from producer Dave Appleyard...

Over the past few months our Rocky
has been rather inundated with work outside of Too REX (Chris Holland, Jools
Holland, Donovan etc. including occasional Albert Hall appearances!) He did
think he could juggle all like we do, and was doing successfully up to a point,
however with TooREX dates on the ever increase and more overseas work here and
there we decided between us all it was wise to call on some external full-time
help.
Rocky has bought a wealth of
talent and lots of fun to the band and we will miss him. We want to wish him all
the best with his career and thank him for his sterling work with TooREX. He
even agreed to dep the occasional TooREX show if our new guy was ever
unavailable. Thanks ROCKY!!

MEMORIAL FOR MARC
As in previous years, there will be a service at Golders Green
Crematorium on the afternoon of Sunday 16th September. The OMBFC
will be having a collection to raise money to pay for a 'special'
30th Anniversary tribute for Marc, to be placed at Golders Green
crematorium in September. This could be a special panel or a plaque
placed in the Chapel of Remembrance, or an entry into the Book of
Remembrance, or perhaps all of these depending on how much money is
raised. Items like these can be costly, and additional payments must
also be made to have them on display for years to come, therefore
our initial target is to raise £1,000. If you would like to
contribute, please send a cheque or postal order to OMBFC, 6, Byker
Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 2NS. Please make cheque payable to
'The Marc Bolan Memorial Fund' and please enclose a note to tell us
who it is from!
